Vessel Verification

Every vessel listed on Makai goes through a verification process. We require proof of valid insurance, up-to-date registration, and safety compliance. Vessels that fail to maintain current documentation are automatically suspended from the platform.

Licensed Captains

All charters on Makai are captained by licensed operators. Captains must hold valid USCG credentials (or equivalent) for their vessel class. We verify captain licenses and monitor expiration dates to ensure continuous compliance.

Secure Payments

All payments are processed through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. Your financial information is encrypted and never stored on Makai servers. Our escrow-based payment system holds funds until the trip is completed, protecting both renters and owners.

Weather Safety

Captains have full authority to cancel or modify trips when weather conditions are unsafe. Safety always takes priority over schedules. In the event of a weather-related cancellation, our team works with both parties to arrange rebooking or refunds.

Community Standards

Makai maintains community guidelines that all users must follow. We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, discrimination, and unsafe behavior. Users who violate our standards may have their accounts suspended or permanently removed.

Incident Reporting

If you experience a safety concern, incident, or emergency during a Makai trip, contact emergency services first (911 / Coast Guard), then report to us at support@themakaiapp.com. Our team investigates all reported incidents and takes appropriate action.
